Earn Your Stripes - Spring Trend Alert - STRIPES

I love to keep up with Classic trends. And for spring, the one that's really caught my eye is stripes.  They are everywhere; this print is angling for serious space in your closet. And why not? It’s one of the most wearable trends this season ~ and a cinch when it comes to styling. For a timeless sea-worthy look stick to stripes in go to primary colors like red, navy or black.

Stripes are an essential part of any timeless wardrobe, but they can still feel fresh, modern and new, too. Deciding how to wear stripes in a way that works for your lifestyle and personal taste can depend on many things, including your height and body type.

For example, vertical stripes are great for petite women and the curvy figure. The vertical lines will slim you and even give you the appearance of looking taller. Also wearing stripes asymmetrically will also elongate the body and draw the eye up and down, rather than side-to-side.

Another trend equally popular in the streets and on the runways: crisp pinstripe shirting with a creative twist… that creative twist can include off the shoulder blouses, ruffles, cut outs and more. Thin or pin stripes can also have a slimming effect, while bold, thick stripes can draw the eye to the wrong places.

A classic Breton stripe in navy and white will work for anyone; it's just a matter of deciding what kind of clothing is right for you—it could be a cotton dress or t-shirt or even a thick knit sweater. When paired with the right pieces, stripes can really enhance your figure and keep you looking up-to-date. On the runways this season, designers were mixing wide and thin stripes or pairing stripes with florals; such match-ups generally don't work for day-to-day looks. The key to wearing stripes in the real world is always to wear just one print matched with a solid. For example, a vertically striped blouse looks great with white trousers or jeans. Vertically striped pants or skirts can make you look taller and in style when worn with a solid-colored tee. Black or Navy is a great anchor color, but with the emergence of spring, I’m liking the idea of pairing my stripes with white everything!!! For dresses and skirts, avoid horizontal stripes that widen your shape -- unless you have a boyish figure and need to create some curves. Like me!
