Styling Advice from Lydia....Curvy Girl with Oooh La La Hour Glass Figure

Girls with curves have figures that are shaped like an hourglass. Just think of celebrities like Scarlett Johansson, Salma Hayek, Jessica Simpson, Kim Kardashian, and many more. These hotties know exactly what to wear to show off their curvaceous figures!

First off...that WAIST!!!!

When you have curves, you have a waist.  This body feature is the single most important part of a curvy girl’s body, period!  By highlighting the waist, you not only balance the proportion of your body, but you look slimmer.   When you bypass the waist area by not shaping it, your entire body looks as wide as your hips and bust area which, for curvy girls, can often be quite ample.

There are many ways to shape your waist. Here are some of my favorite ways to dress my girls with curves, starting with the obvious. Choose tops, jackets, and dresses that have waist definition.

High Waisted Bottoms are Your Friend!

Yes, you can wear skinnies but remember the number one issue I see with girls who have curves is squeezing into clothes that don’t fit them.

Honey – if any of your curvy-ness is bulging out – it’s NOT flattering! You aren’t proving anything to anyone just because you managed to squeeze into a size smaller jeans. When you try on bottoms – skirts, pants, jeans, leggings, tights – you should be able to pull the waist of the bottoms up over your tummy area (especially if that’s an area you want to hide). If the waist hits you & hugs, you mid-waist (AKA mid bulge) then put it back & move on! This way, when you throw on your top, your curves will be smooth & sexy – not chopped up and sticking out in all kinds of ways.
